Not Sure How To Maintain Your Hydraulic Cylinder - We are here to Help You!!

We know how important it is to keep your hydraulic system in tip top shape. If it’s not performing at its peak, it can jeopardise your project, your machine, and cost you time and money.

Sometimes the best method is to get a repair or replacement if you keep having issues, but there are also ways you can improve the upkeep of your hydraulic cylinder.

As is recommended, always consult your hydraulic cylinder’s manual, but here are some key tips on how to maintain your cylinder.

Lubricate Your Hydraulic Cylinder Rods

If you want your equipment to remain efficient, it’s imperative that you keep it lubricated to work at its best. It’s an important part of the upkeep, and will improve the performance.

  1. Research and find out which lubricant is best for your parts

  2. Clean and remove existing lubricant before applying any new oil

  3. Flush your hydraulic system

  4. Apply new lubricant

  5. Reassemble your hydraulic cylinder

Change the Hydraulic Fluids and Install New Filters

The fluids placed in your hydraulic cylinder can get contaminated and affect the functioning of the cylinder, so it’s best to make sure you’re changing the fluid and installing new filters as part of the maintenance routine.

  1. Drain the old hydraulic fluid

  2. Clean the hydraulic cylinder using a rag or towel to remove any residue

  3. Reinstall the hydraulic cylinder

  4. Reconnect the hydraulic hose

  5. Fill with new hydraulic oil or other fluids
